Frequently asked questions about the Hel Peninsula

How long is the Hel Peninsula?

The Hel Peninsula, the Hel Spit, is about 35 kilometres long, running from its base at Wladyslawowo to the tip at Hel. Its width ranges from about 150 metres at the narrowest point near Chalupy to over 3 kilometres at the tip. The spit separates the shallow Puck Bay from the open Baltic Sea.

What is there to see on the Hel Peninsula?

The main highlights are the seal sanctuary of the Marine Station and the Museum of Coastal Defence in Hel, the lighthouses in Hel and Jastarnia, the fortifications of the Jastarnia Resistance Centre, the fishing harbours, and the wide open-sea beaches alongside the calm bathing spots on the Puck Bay side. Jastarnia, in the middle of the spit, makes a base from which the train reaches both ends of the peninsula.
