Rainy day on Hel: indoor attractions for children 0-10
A rainy day on the Hel Peninsula with children 0-10. A map of indoor attractions in Jastarnia, Hel and the surrounding area plus ready-made scenarios.

How to read this rainy attractions map
This guide does not replace a classic Google Map, but it helps to organise in your head a simple layout of indoor places for children 0-10 on the Hel Peninsula. Instead of a long list of recommendations there are three rings. Jastarnia and the immediate surroundings as base. Hel as the main one-day rainy destination. And attractions up to 30 kilometres away, which we reach for when we really need to play an ace from the sleeve.
Family services emphasise that Hel and the surrounding area are an excellent destination with children, also when the weather is not for the beach. The descriptions repeatedly mention the same motifs. The seal centre, museums, lighthouses, indoor play rooms, the aquapark in Reda, the amusement park in Celbowo and themed museums in Wladyslawowo. All of this can be arranged into a simple, readable rainy day map that you easily adapt to the child's age and the strength of the rain.
The base in Jastarnia is described in more detail by Rainy weekend in Jastarnia: emergency programme. Here we focus on children 0-10, without sending the family to attractions rather aimed at teenagers.
Jastarnia and the closest surroundings for 0-10
In Jastarnia we first look at what is really nearby. Zeglarz cinema at 10 Portowa Street is a classic rainy refuge. Hotel and restaurant descriptions say plainly that this is the only studio cinema on the peninsula and an ideal idea for rainy days and long summer evenings, with a programme that includes films for children, family and adults. A short walk from the port or from Dom Zdrojowy is enough to hide inside.
The second pillar is the indoor playrooms and pools in facilities such as Marina Jastarnia. On the venue's site you find a description of a private heated pool with a paddling section for children, with a comfortable water temperature and a heating system that allows year-round use. Next to it operates an internal playroom with a play structure, ball pool, slide and screen, and a fenced outdoor playground with trampolines and bouncy castles in the courtyard between buildings. This is a package mainly available to guests of a given property, but it gives a clear picture of what to look for when choosing accommodation if you consider rainy days with children.
Places such as the 7 Continents restaurant in Jastarnia, in their family guides, also point first to Zeglarz cinema, local bouncy parks in the Parklandia style and internal play zones as a remedy for worse weather. In practice in Jastarnia itself you can sensibly spend several rainy hours before you even board a train.
Hel in the rain: seal centre, museums and the lighthouse
Hel is a natural target for a rainy day. The Hel Marine Station seal centre is essentially a mandatory point of every family visit to the peninsula. Family articles describe it as the biggest attraction of Hel, with seal feedings at 11.00 and 14.00, the possibility of watching the animals underwater through large glass panels, plus an educational hall and an exhibition titled Mammals of our sea. In the summer season a third feeding at 16.30 is added, and the facility operates from 9.30 to 19.00, which gives plenty of flexibility when planning the day.
The second pillar is the Fishery Museum in a former church, which local guides describe as a place where children can see traditional boats, nets, tools and old maps, and on the tower there is a viewing point overlooking Hel and the cape. In addition, within the Hel Museum Complex there is the Hel Museum, the Coastal Defence Museum with an open-air site of bunkers and the Laskowski battery, and the Hel Railway Museum, reached by narrow-gauge railway, which is a big attraction for children in itself.
To this is added the lighthouse in Hel, 41.5 metres tall, with a viewing terrace at about 38.5 metres, from which you can see the passage between the open sea and the bay. In light rain, climbing the lighthouse can be even more interesting than in full sun, because clouds and mist do their job.
A good detailed overview of all these places, including from the weather perspective, is given by Hel off-season with children. Here we just add a rain filter.
A day trip up to 30 km when it really rains
If the forecast says clearly that it will rain all day, we reach for attractions within roughly 30 kilometres, which many families look at sooner or later anyway. Texts about family holidays on the peninsula and in the surrounding area consistently mention several hits.
The first is Aquapark Reda, with a children's part and the famous slide running through a tank of sharks, which is one of the most recognisable water attractions in Poland. The second is Czarogrody amusement park in Celbowo, described as a special land with fairy-tale houses, interactive installations, puzzles and animations led by costumed entertainers. The third is the Wax Figures Museum in Wladyslawowo, perfect for a shorter indoor trip, with realistic figures of famous characters that work well for photos and short videos.
To this are added many smaller places, collected by a guide to attractions within 30 kilometres of Wladyslawowo and the Hel Peninsula. In practice during heavy rain it is best to choose one big attraction and one calmer point, for example Czarogrody plus a short walk around the port of Wladyslawowo, so that you do not exhaust the children with transport.
How to plan a rainy day step by step
With children 0-10 a simple scheme works. In the morning movement close to base. Breakfast, indoor pool, play room at the venue if you have one, or a short walk around Jastarnia in the breaks between showers. In the middle of the day a big attraction, for example the seal centre and the museum in Hel, with a train ride instead of fighting the road. In the afternoon a return to Jastarnia and a calmer point, like Zeglarz cinema or a warm bath in the paddling pool.
If you plan a day trip to Reda or Celbowo, it is good to leave in the morning, before everyone else gets to the car park, and return to Jastarnia in the late afternoon, leaving the evening for a quiet meal and arranging blocks in the apartment. Children do not like it when the whole day is one long attraction. A better sequence is more intense, calmer, more intense, calmer.
In practical terms it helps a lot if one rainy bag for the child is always packed. A change of clothes, light shoes for water, a thin hat, something to cover the pram, a few snacks. Just like in the guide Seasonal packing lists for Hel, only with extra emphasis on rain gear.
How to combine rainy attractions with a base in Jastarnia
The advantage of Jastarnia is that on the one hand you have a cinema, indoor play rooms and pools in some facilities, and on the other within a short train ride there are Hel, Puck, Wladyslawowo and Reda. So you can react to the forecast instead of fighting it. If the rain is intermittent, you stay in Jastarnia and use the local solutions. If it pours all day, you choose one of the stronger points on the map.
It is good to have a flexible weekly plan. At least one Hel day, one entirely local day with cinema and pool, and possibly a trip day to Reda or Celbowo if the forecast is really difficult. You leave the rest of the week for normal beach time and walks. Such a mix means that rain does not spoil the trip but becomes a pretext for doing things that are usually a waste of time in the sun.
When the weather allows, it pays to shift activity outdoors - the separate playground map of the Hel Peninsula gathers specific locations of municipal playgrounds, inflatables and rope parks in Jastarnia, Hel and Jurata, so you can quickly plan a day when the sun comes back.
In all of this what matters is a base you happily return to after several hours of intense stimuli. A place where you can quietly dry off jackets, repack the bag and sit the children down with a book or a film. Such a role is well played by Apartament Zdrojowy 323 in Hotel Dom Zdrojowy in Jastarnia, where in one studio you handle both the morning preparations for the trip to Hel and the evening arranging of the rainy attractions map for the next day.
For couples and adults without kids
A rainy day in Jastarnia does not have to be only "for children". For couples and adults looking for quiet or indoor activity, below are options not covered in the family-with-young-kids sections.
Indoor attractions in Jastarnia
The most convenient options are right here. The Zeglarz cinema is the last real cinema on the Hel Peninsula, run by the same family for three generations, with an intimate auditorium and a programme that covers not only films but also concerts and meetings. Tickets cost roughly 16 to 20 PLN and the programme changes weekly. The cinema runs mainly in the summer season, so outside the holidays it is worth checking in advance whether it is open.
The second stop is a small regional museum in Jastarnia, telling the story of fishing and the Kashubian culture of the spit. It is a short but atmospheric visit that works well as a break in a rainy walk. Once you know the story of the fishing families, the whole area is easier to read, as we describe in the guide the Hel Peninsula from the inside.
The third and most time-flexible option is the pool and SPA zone of Hotel Dom Zdrojowy. The indoor pool is open daily from 9:00 to 21:00, with two jacuzzis, a sauna complex, a paddling pool for the youngest and a relaxation lounge. For apartment guests most of this is included in the stay; only beauty treatments are charged separately. It can easily fill several hours of a rainy day without ever stepping outside.
Indoor attractions in Hel
If the rain does not ease, the best move is to take the train to Hel. The ride from Jastarnia takes about 25 to 30 minutes, and the station sits close to the main attractions.
The strongest stop is the seal sanctuary of the University of Gdansk Marine Station. The exhibition and pavilion are roofed, so the site works regardless of the weather and you can watch the grey seals even in the rain. From 1 May 2026 a standard ticket costs 25 PLN and a reduced one 20 PLN. Hours change with the season, from 10:00 to 16:00 off-season, to 17:00 in May, June and September, and to 18:00 in July and August. Because of a renovation of part of the breeding pools the sanctuary is sometimes open on limited days, so check the current hours before you travel. Where to watch seals in the wild we describe in the guide seals in the wild on the Hel Peninsula.
The second option is the Museum of Coastal Defence, part of the Hel Museum Complex. In the former bunkers of the Schleswig-Holstein battery and by the position of the Laskowski battery there is an exhibition on the defence of Hel, and in the nine-storey fire control tower you can climb to a terrace overlooking the peninsula. The museum is open in season from late March to the end of October, with tickets starting from a few zloty for the museum alone and combined tickets around 25 PLN. Part of the complex is outdoors, but the main exhibitions keep you under cover. We develop the topic of fortifications in the guide bunkers and fortifications on the Hel Peninsula.
The third address is the Fishery Museum in Hel, set in a former church in the town centre. The exhibition covers the history of the Baltic, the story of the spit and fishing in the Gulf of Gdansk, and the Gothic building itself is striking. It is a good, short visit that pairs easily with the seal sanctuary for one rainy walk around Hel.
Water parks and pools nearby
There is no large water park on the Hel Peninsula itself, but the area has a few options for a longer rainy trip. The closest, in Wladyslawowo, is a water park by the beach and the indoor Aquarius pool at the COS Cetniewo centre, with a recreational pool, jacuzzi and slide. Further away are larger aquaparks in Reda and the Tricity, which you can reach from Jastarnia by car or by train.
A water park trip is best treated as a full day rather than a short break. If you travel without a car, check the rail connections described in the guide the Hel Peninsula without a car. Families with younger children will also find our guide rainy-day attractions for children aged 0-10 useful, as it arranges the same places around the youngest visitors.

Frequently asked questions
On a rainy day on the peninsula, is there anything to do with children aged 0-10?
Yes. Rain does not have to mean sitting in your room. The Hel Peninsula has several strong, typically family attractions under cover. In Hel these are mainly the Hel Marine Station seal centre, with an educational hall, underwater viewing windows and a short film about Baltic mammals, and the Fishery Museum with a viewing tower in a former church, where children can see boats, nets and fishing gear. In Jastarnia, a good choice is the Zeglarz cinema with family screenings and Marina Jastarnia with an indoor playroom and a heated pool with a paddling section for the youngest. If the weather is really difficult, you can add Aquapark Reda or other attractions within roughly 30 kilometres.
Which indoor attractions in Jastarnia are good for the youngest children?
On the spot in Jastarnia, start with what is closest. Zeglarz cinema, the only studio cinema on the entire peninsula, regularly screens family films and animations, and local guides recommend it as the ideal idea for a rainy afternoon. For children 0-10 the key places are those where they can move. An example is Marina Jastarnia with an internal playroom, an indoor pool with a warm paddling section and a play room with a climbing structure, ball pool and slide, designed with children and parents in mind. These are solutions reserved for guests of a specific property, but they show the standard worth looking for when choosing accommodation. In practice a rainy day often wins with a combination: morning in the pool or play room, afternoon at the cinema or a short trip to Hel.
What about children aged 4-10 who do not want only the play room?
At this age, attractions that combine movement, history and animals work well. The seal centre in Hel lets you see seals underwater through large windows, and in the educational hall children can learn how the seal protection programme works and what to do when they see a seal on the beach. The Fishery Museum, with boats, old fishing tools and entry to the church tower, gives a short but intense lesson on what life on the peninsula was like before the parasol era. For children interested in history, a good choice is also the Hel Museum Complex, including the Coastal Defence Museum and the Laskowski battery open-air site, reached by narrow-gauge railway, which is an attraction in itself. On a very rainy day you can arrange these places into a simple loop with a base in Jastarnia.
Is it worth leaving the Hel Peninsula on a really rainy day?
Yes, if the weather is clearly hopeless and the children have had enough of sitting in the room, it is worth reaching for attractions within about 30 kilometres. Family guides list several hits. Aquapark Reda, with a large area for children, including the famous slide running through a tank of sharks. Czarogrody amusement park in Celbowo, with covered animation zones and fairy-tale installations, where children can solve puzzles and play with costumed entertainers. The Wax Figures Museum in Wladyslawowo, which on a rainy day delivers a lot of simple, Instagram-friendly fun for the whole family. This type of trip makes sense especially when you combine a few hours of indoor play with a short walk during a lighter shower.
How can I sensibly plan a rainy day with children 0-10 in Jastarnia and Hel?
A three-part structure works well. In the morning something close to base with movement, for example a pool and play room at the hotel or aparthotel if such facilities are on site. At midday, when the rain usually stabilises, a train ride to Hel and entry to the seal centre, with feeding observation at 11.00 or 14.00 and the underwater world through glass. In the afternoon the Fishery Museum or a short walk around the port, ending with a return to Jastarnia and an evening screening at Zeglarz cinema. Children get the feeling of a full day of attractions, even though they spend most of their time indoors or in sheltered places.
Are the rainy attractions on the peninsula also suitable for toddlers in prams?
Some places are well prepared for prams, others require a little logistics. The Hel seal centre has partly outdoor terrain with ramps and paths, but during feeding hours large queues form, which can be tiring with an infant. The Fishery Museum has stairs and a tower, while the main hall and the lower exhibits are accessible for prams with some help at the entrance. Indoor play rooms such as the one at Marina Jastarnia are designed with children and parents in mind, with a bathroom and a place to leave a pram. A good planning supplement is the guide Hel friendly to prams and people with reduced mobility, which helps choose walking routes between these spots.
